Green Way Meadow Replanting • Day 1 Volunteers

Legacy Meadow Replanting

The Green Way Meadow was cleared of mugwort in 2010 and planted with native species, but over the years the mugwort and other introduced plants have taken root again and crowded out the native species. The Legacy Meadow Replanting Project was conceived in 2024 with a plan to remove those species and to plant native species in their place.

The clearing work started in the late summer of 2024 and got going in earnest in the spring and summer of 2025 with 20 work dates and participation by 44 volunteers totalling 486 hours combined. All that work is culminating in the Fall Planting that is happening on the weekend of September 26-28 and the following weekend of October 3-5.

Over the three day weekend of September 26-28 there were 45 volunteers who showed up to help with the planting for a combined total of 281 hours put in to this labor of love. You can view an album of photos here.

The final step in the site preparation involved placing color-coded flags to guide the volunteers where each native species plant needs to be placed. You can see the species and quantities paired up with the flag colors in the table below.

All told there are 3,400 native plants plugs being set in the area according to the flag color placements.
